2011 Earth Week A Success!

Despite the unpleasant conditions this past weekend, HandsOn Greater Buffalo would like to everyone who participated in making Earth Week 2011 a success!

Here is a breakdown of the events that took place over the weekend:

1.       Gallagher Beach Clean Up
·         45 volunteers served a total of 116 hours
·          Total .5 miles (2640 feet, 880 yards) of shoreline cleaned
·         30 trash bags filled (18 non-recyclable bags, 12 recyclable bags)
 
2.       Art for Earth Day 2011
·         Donations from 10 firms across Western New York
·         10,000 pieces of materials were saved from landfills
·         25 artists and students participated in the event
·         Over 7,000 pieces taken
·         60 hours of volunteer work went into event
 
3.       HOGB/Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo Spring  Maintenance for Upcoming Growing Seasons
·         32 volunteers served a total of 112 hours
·         7 Gardens were prepared for upcoming growing season
·         20 tree were planted
